Did Winchester ever silverplate the receiver of a Model 1866 without engraving?

  I can not give you a definitive answer to that question. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the records for the Model 1866 were lost a long long time ago. Cody only has the records for serial numbers 125,000+.
  
  I have not ever seen a silver plated Model 1866 that was not engraved, but it is possible that a few may have been made. I have seen a number nickel-plated 1866s that were not engraved.
