Can the mag tube be changed from a 3 shot to a 5 shot like the 11 48?If so can it be extended to except more shells?

  PEZ, I think all you would have to do would be to drill out the three dimples in the magazine tube. Use the smallest drill that will clear those dimples, and re-assemble. I've never done it but I don't think it will hurt anything.

  Yes the tubes will interchange. Make certain whoever does the swap Knows that the tube is soldered in. The ham handed mutt I sent my 11-48 to destroyed my receiver trying to unscrew it.
  
  As OleDuk mentioned, the dimples can be drilled and is something you can do yourself.
  
  I have no idea whether or not an 1100 or 870 mag extention will fit.
