Red "W" on Winchester 1200

I own a Winchester Model 1200, 12 gauge shotgun. This gun has a red letter "W" on the cap on the stock. I've only seen a few with this option. Was it offered only for a few years? Does it have any spaecial meaning like the RED Letter on Winchester Model 37's ?
