Weird proof/ident. marks on 1939 Hi Power.
Well, I recently bought a Hi-power. I knew that is was pre-war, and that sold me! However, I would really appreciate an experts opinion regarding a couple of proof/ident. marks on the trigger.
First, I'll list proof inspection marks that are obvious.
Left side above slide lock: "C" in a square, E over GB, Lion over PV, and star over E.
Left side below slide lock: "C" in a square, E over GB, Lion over PV, and star over E.---Then AC under Crown, and GC under Crown, and finally "C" in a square on trigger.
RIGHT SIDE OF THE PISTOL: On barrel}-E over LG inside circled crown, star over E, lion over PV, E over GB inside circle. "C" in a square over CAL 9mm P
Serial number: 41963 on slide, frame, and barrel. Walnut checkered grips.
All of the above makes me believe it is a prewar FN hi power with tangent sight, and slotted grip. From what I have gathered it is a 1939.
HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION!!!?---ON the right hand trigger guard by the frame is what looks like a two sided triangle with a lower case u in the middle of it. Directly below and right of this marking is a weird looking v5. This is what has me stumped. I have never seen these two markings. Are they military markings? Are they import export stamps? Is this gun a 1939? Could the strange markings be some sort of Nazi identification marking. What is the approximate value of the pistol?

If none of our folks can help you there is a guy who posts on the military handguns board, on the gunboards forum. He is very very knowledgeable about High Powers. It would be best if you could post quality photos though, so that the markings are sharp and visible. 0 -
May the partial triangle be the point of the Broad Arrow? and the 'u' is really a 'c'? If so, you have a stamping denoting a firearm used in Canadian service, and struck with the property stamp of Canada (broad arrow with a 'c').

I looked closely, and the "U" could surely be a lower case "c" sitting on it's back in the middle of an arrow. The gun has a "c" in a square located near the muzzle on the left hand side.
Are you saying that this gun could have been part of a service order to the canadian government before they started making the pistol after nazi takover?
Let me be more clear about the "v5" on the right side trigger guard. It looks like the "square root v" used in algebra. The five directly follows the v.
