"45"cal ammo

I have 20 rds of colt ammo manufactured at Frankford Arsenal. The rounds ar marked 1-F-A-14 and 2-F-14.They are still in the box which is old but readable. Anyone know anything about these? I not an ammo expert but they ar interesting. I think they were produced in 1914. Thanks fdj_gunner1[?]

    Hi,

    By Colt ammunition, I assume you mean 45 Colt rather than 45 ACP ammunition. Both were made being made at the same period of time.

    The headstamp indicates the cartridges were made by Frandford Arsenal (FA) in January (1) and February (2) 1914 (14). This cartridge is known by official government nomenclature as the Cal. .45 Revolver Ball Cartridge Model of 1909. This round was made specifically for the Model 1909 Colt Double Action Revolver.

    This cartridge design would have been the final standard production in an evolution of about 7 different variations of 45 Colt cartridges for pistols including the Colt Single Action Army and Schofield Revolver. In fact, the last three variations were produced in the time frame from December 1908 to March 1909. The 1914 date is very late production. The last production order for Frandford Arsenal was in April of 1915 for two million rounds. Whether this order was ever completed is unknown.
