Hi-Cap Mag question
does anyone know if there is such a thing as a PRE-BAN high capacity mag for a Glock 22 pistol? Here in NY we can only own (legally) a 10 round magazine, dealers cannot sell anything higher. I am just wondering if there is a pre ban magazine for glocks like there is a pre ban AR-15 rifle. Pre bans are legal to sell here in NY with magazines higher than 10 round. If there is such an animal, how would one go about telling the difference

It would depend on what date the authorities in N.Y. decreed as their "ban" date? Glock 22's were always sold with I believe, 14? round high-cap magazines. . I don't remember the specific date they came on the market, some time in the late 80's? Since the magazines were not dated or serial numbered how would it be possible to date the early high-cap ones? 0 -
First of all, 14 round magazines are properly termed STANDARD capacity.
Those abominable 10-rounders are accurately known as REDUCED, or RESTRICTED capacity magazines.
Anyway, to answer the question, I believe the Glock mags underwent several serial changes to their design with the various Glock "generations". Obviously, the ones manufactured during the Clinton gun ban years say "Law enforcement only" on them. I can't be too specific on this, because I don't know the details, but I think it is possible for someone knowledgeable to tell the era of manufacture based on subtle features in the magazine, like shape of the release notch, etc.
The issue is a real one in MA, which also bans importation (but not possession with the appropriate license) of STANDARD capacity magazines. This link may be instructive:
