shipping pistol to manufacturer

I purchased a new pistol on Gunbroker. I've used it for a couple months. I noticed today that the slide has cracked. It is still under warranty.

I'm not an FFL. Is it legal for me to send it direct to the manufacturer for repair, or do I need to go through an FFL?

  Legal for you to ship it-just has to go UPS or Fedex. Call the manuf. as some of them will give you a call tag so that the shipping won't cost you a fortune-otherwise it will run you around $50 because UPS and Fedex will only ship handguns next day air from a nonffl. Hanguns cannot be shipped via the US Post office by a non ffl---if you have a local ffl he can ship it that way and sometimes it is cheaper with his fee than shipping UPS or Fedex. BTW you have to ship it through a main hub not one of those UPS Stores.

  I would contact the manufacturer for guidance in this matter prior to shipping. Nowadays it's very expensive for a non FFL licensee to ship a handgun. Probably between at least $40 & $60, not including insurance. As a 01 licensee can ship by Priority Mail it would be much to your benefit to ship through a FFL, if the handguns manufacturer won't pay for the shipping.
