    I thought that is how the post '64's looked when they used the pressed checkering.

    I should clarify. I'm thinking this is an early post '64 in that the pressed checkering was only on the sides and not the bottom. It wasn't until a little while after initial runs of the rifle were made that the basketweave came into being. Probably easier not to screw up. However, I'm not a Winchester expert. That was just what I was thinking.

    Thats what Im thinking, its pressed and post 64. I thought they went to a basket weave pressed though?

    Carbine100 is absolutely correct . That is a correct Pre64 Model 100 Rifle . The post 64s have that ugly pressed basketweave checkering . The Carbines have no checkering at all ! Oh and by the way , that looks to be a fine specimen and in one of the more rare Cals.
    It sure would be nice if that seller had some feedback . The present state of our economy is forcing many guns and people to market .

    Just to be clear; the stock is pre-64 but the action, based on serial number above 92,000, is post-64. At least I think 92000 was the upper limit on pre-64 100s. Need better pictures to be sure but that stock looks a little too good and might be refinished. Can't tell about the blueing but given the likely mismatch on the stock and action I'd want more pictures before spending much on this one.

    I thought the stock looked suspect also. It should be slightly proud at the but plate, and looks like the butt plate is overshadowing the stock.

    Carbine100 is right...pre 64' stock on post 63' rifle.
