colt vs. armalite

So it has been decided..I'll be buying a .223 ar15 type rifle as a shtf rifle..ammo is easy, it's made in the US. Im planning to stock up in parts..which is better? armalite or colt? Pros and cons listed will do a lot of help..my budget is about 1k-1500..thank you very much.

    "Armalite" of today is not the company that developed the AR-15. I believe it is Eagle Arms, & they bought the name "Armalite". I don't believe that they have ever made rifles for sale to the US military.

    On the other hand, every part of every Colt is made to USGI milspec. So that was my choice.

    There are several other companies that made milspec rifles for sale to the US military. Can't remember which ones, you may have to search the archives for the list.

    Actually it is the other way around Eagle Arms was an off shoot of Armalite.

    To answer the original question you can't go wrong with either Colt or Armalite.

    Neal is right, Colt makes good mil spec ARs. There are others out there who also make very good quality ARs, DPMS & Bushmaster to name a couple.

    Oh yeh, it was Armalite that bought Eagle Arms, Eagle did not buy Armalite.

    I strongly disagree with that statement. Eagle Arms was an early clone maker that began production of AR-15-type rifles in 1989. Eagle Arms bought the ArmaLite name and began marking its rifles "ArmaLite" in 1995.

    Since I have followed ArmaLite since the 1950s, I already knew the history. However, for those who want more proof of the chronology of the ArmaLite name than the statements of an old man who was there, the "new" ArmaLite has a good history on its own web site here:

    Clearly, Eagle Arms was NOT an off shoot of ArmaLite.

    Probably the best AR-15/M-16 rifle built, was by FN. Yes, Colt has collector value, and Bushmaster, DPMS, Stag, and S&W are all mil-spec.
