Sako, L579 Bolt Stop
The spring that works with the bolt release on my L579 has either broken or perhaps shifted out of place? I removed the 2 screws that hold the bolt release to the receiver and expected this assembly to come right off and reveal exactly what the problem is. There is no sign of corrosion where the assembly joins the receiver (or anywhere else for that matter) but I can't get the assembly free. I tapped it lightly with a plastic mallet, but thought I should check in with the brethren before going any further. Will go down and put a little of new supply of Kroil to it now and see if that helps. In the meantime; any tricks I'm missing here?

O.K., phase one success. Took another Sako apart and confirmed that the bolt stop and surrounding "saddle" should lift right out. After the Kroil soak I was able to pry the parts out without any scratching or damage.
Now for phase 2: The small spring was broken; a thin little thing only about .027 in diameter. Would love to find a replacement, though it should be easy enough to make a replacement using the good one I have as a model.
Anyone know of possible sources?
p.s. Bill, the following is response from Wolff,
Sorry Bill - our wire composition is proprietary.it is carbon steel but NOT standard spring wire (commonly known as "music" wire) but that's as far as I can go.

4-4-10 UPDATE,
Got the wire from Wolfe last week and got around to working with it yesterday. First attempt was a functional success if not an artistic masterpiece, which really doesn't matter since the spring is hidden from view. Using a good spring from my 308 as a model I fashioned a wire bending jig from a block of maple, 2 nails and a small drill. After I had the wire bent into a reasonable resemblance of the original, I preheated my toaster oven to 425 degrees per Wolfe instructions, put my new spring in and left it there for 30 minutes.
Worked like a charm, and I now have my .243 back in working order. If I planned to make more of these things I'd likely invest in some special pliers, a mild steel block for my jig, etc. As is, I'm a happy camper.
