Shipping C&R to a different address

This question has probably been covered many times, but I had no luck running a search. I have a C&R license and won a C&R rifle. I would prefer to have it shipped to a different address, is this acceptable?

    You can't do it with a C&R FFL. Dealers can have guns delivered to other/remote locations, but not collectors.

    There is nothing in the law that prohibits that but you will have a hard time finding a supplier that will ship to an address not listed on your license.

    Yes, but I think the question being asked is "can I have the gun shipped to an address that is not the one specified on my C & R license?" and I've always been told the answer is no.

    Don't have a copy with me, but I think the license has two addresses. One is ID'd as premisis and the other mailing. They can be the same or different, but whichever is ID'd as the mailing address is the only one that can be used to ship.

    If anyone has info direct from ATF stating otherwise would be good to know.

    I disagree with you. While the regulations specifically allow for a licensee to have firearms shipped to remote locations, in every instance when the term licensee is used in 24 CFR 478 inclusive, it applies to Dealers or higher FFLs. Where the regulations apply to C&R holders this is expressly spelled out through the use of Licensed Collector, so as to clearly differentiate the collector from the licensee.

    The regulation really doesn't give a formal definition of licensee. 27CFR ?478.11 only defines licensed collector, licensed dealer, licensed importer, and licensed manufacturer.

    I was referring to the fact that nothing in GCA 68 or the regulation forbids shipment to an address not on the license. BATF pointed that out in one of their FFL newsletters. I believe it was the August 2005 edition in the FAQ section. BATF stated that since it was not forbidden, it was permitted although it was the shipper's responsibility to ensure that he was, in fact, shipping to a licensee.

    My Adobe Reader is screwed up right now and I can't pull up the newsletter. I'll try again when I get home, if I remember. I forgot last night.

    ADDED: It was the March 2006 FFL Newsletter on Page 8. Here is a link. In the question and first part of the answer they only refer to FFL, not a specific type.
