    Tom,

I believe that F.I.E. imported them, and sold them as a "Titan". FIE is out of business. Excam also imported & sold some Tanfoglio guns. Excam is also out of business. European American Armory still sells some modern Tanfoglio guns, the "Witness" being most notable. Here is a Wikipedia article on Tanfoglio:

...with links at the bottom of that page.

The quality of the Tanfoglio .25s was nowhere near that of the Browning .25s.

One of the Italian Proof Marks on it will be a coded date. Do to the enactment of the Gun Control Act of 1968, the importation of small handguns such as .25 automatics was terminated. Because of this it's very likely your Tanfoglio .25 will be at least 42 years old.

Believe it or not, F.I.E. DID make a .25 auto that was "ALL steel". It was a COPY of the Colt Junior. It wasn't that bad. MOST fie titan's were POT METAL frames and wore out quickly.

The Tanfoglios were all steel. Some may have been made with aluminum frames.
None were ever "pot metal (zinc)."

I forgot the name. You are right (the best). The trouble I have had with the ALLOY one's were the rear rails of the frame would scape metal off and soon the slide would fly off the frame when firing,BAD. I had SOME that worked by putting a steel rod in the rear of the frame, so the slide wore on the steel and NOT the ALLOY.
