Pre-64 Model 70 LOP?
What should the LOP be on a Pre-64 Model 70? The gun I'm looking at is a Standard Grade Westerner in 264 Win Mag. It looks like someone took off the original hard rubber butt plate and replaced it with a recoil pad. The gun seems extremely long when it's shouldered so I'm hoping the wood hasn't been cut. If it was a one-for-one swap with no alterations to the wood, I'm hoping I can just replace the original butt plate and return the gun to factory specs.

I just measured mine (and it's a standard grade .264 Westerner-1961). It's 13.5 over the origional butt plate and 13.25 wood only. Bear in mind, the butt plate has a slight curve to it--if the wood's straight, it's been cut.
Disclaimer: I don't know if recoil pads were ever standard issue on .264 Westerners. I'll try to look it up tomorrow.
EDIT: Roger Rule's book indicates that Winchester did not put recoil pads on standard .264 Westerners.0 -

Yep, I bought it despite the recoil pad. Except for the pad, the rifle is near perfect. Unfortunately, it looks like someone shaved about a quarter inch off the butt to install a very thick pad, hence the difficulty shouldering the thing. Since I won't be able to bring it back to stock configuration with the hard rubber plate, I think I'll remove the thick pad and replace it with a thin red rubber Winchester pad like the ones that were on the 80s featherweights. That'd probably get me back to the original LOP and at least it'd be a Winchester pad. Any thoughts? 0 -
The featherweight Westerner was one of the last pre 64 Model 70s and came with the vented pad, not the solid hard rubber. I think there are aftermarket replicas available. 0
