Information on US Revolver
I would like some information about a handgun I have. It is a US Revolver 38 S&W solid frame with serial # F15863. It was left to me by my father. Any information would be greatly appreciated......

US Arms Company went into business around 1894 and ceased operations in 1917. Most of the revolvers made by them were top break in .38 Smith Wesson . 32. They did make some solid frame revolvers but by and large they were not very reliable and prone to break easily. They do not hold high values but are nice collectors. The plant closed and most of thier equipment was sold at auction. No one continued to produce the guns or pick up thier patents,, Hope this helps. 0 -

If you have, in fact, a "US Revolver"-labeled gun, then you have an Iver Johson-produced gun. US Arms Company is NOT the same company.
Iver Johnson sold some of their guns as "US REVOLVER"-branded guns, even though they were not always advertised as Iver Johnson products. The value would be whatever the comparible IJ model would have. Mr. Goforth should be able to help you further.0 -
this is a late production large frame U.S.Revolver Co. Double Action revolver. serial number F 15863 was manufactured in 1926, there were 10,000 of this model made that year. the caliber was either five 38 S&W or six 32 S&W Long cartridges. unlike the top break version the double action solid frame models did not use second parts. but actually used new made parts all around. the only difference in the U.S.Revolver Co. Double Action and the main line iver johnson model 1900 was the shape of the barrel and cylinder. round for the U.S. barrel and unfluted for its cylinder. the price was even with in a $1.00 in 1926 of the model 1900 and some mail order houses even sold them slightly higher. the finish and fit was the difference.

This revolver was manufactured by Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works for sale through mail order catalogs. Like the top break version it was never listed in any Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works catalog. Features an unfluted cylinder and round barrel in all lengths, grip panels are hard rubber with U S at the top; oversize two piece hard rubber grips were also offered. Offered in three frame sizes and four calibers, the standard barrel length was 2 ? inches on all frame sizes. Calibers: small frame .22 rimfire with 7 rounds cylinder capacity, medium frame .32 centerfire with 5 rounds cylinder capacity, large frame .32 centerfire with 6 rounds cylinder capacity, .38 centerfire with 5 rounds, cylinder capacity: Weight: small frame with 2 ? inch barrel 10 ? ounces, medium frame with 2 ? inch barrel 12 ounces, large frame with 2 ? inch barrel 17 ounces; Height: small frame 3 3/8 inches, medium frame 3 ? inches, large frame 3 7/8 inches; Frame length: small frame 4 inches, medium frame 4 ? inches, large frame 4 7/8 inches; Overall length: small frame with 2 ? inch barrel 6 inches, medium frame with 2 ? inch barrel 6 1/8 inches, large frame with 2? inch barrel 6_ inches.
