Between my Ak and AR's, I'd grab one of the AR carbines. 0 -
frequent....+1 for the Colt. Have lots of AK's in different configurations and countries but my one Colt AR black rifle sits by my bed with a 30rd mag ready to R&R. 0 -
Well, I really like my Colt AR-15, but....
You can give an M1 carbine to anyone in the family, including the kids, & have confidence they will use it effectively.
And, an M1A can take down anything in North America out to 300 yds (with iron sights).
Then again, a 12 ga pump with a selection of ammo can not only protect you but put birds on the table.
Decisions, decisions, decisions. Maybe the best is: one of each.

I have both. But in a real SHTF time and place...I'm grabbing the old remington 513 heavy barrel .22 rifle. I can carry 500 rounds of ammo in
my front pockets, I can fix anything that breaks or wears out with common hand tools, It will kill just about any game to feed my family without booming a loud report across the county to indemnify my location, and it just works every time.
Besides I going to be picking up full auto M16's and Ak 47's from
the head shot people that may be coming after me.
In a SHTF, ALL laws and moral concerns are out the window....I will
do what I need to do to....me and my family come first. Bob0 -
Well what do you define as SHTF? It will make all the difference.
Both of your choices are fine. They are each different and have different price points. You first need to figure out what YOU want the gun to do and how you want it to do that. Next you need to look at your choice of rifle to see it it fits that.
My daily rifle is a M14 set up as a Mk 14 Mod 0 clone, as that is what I feel fits my need.
If I could only have 1 gun for long term SHTF where I needed a gun that could do lots of stuff that would be a 10/22 preferably with my silencer.0 -
+1 for the AR, it is more accurate. Tim 0
