41 Magnum Shot Shells?

I would like some, but I have never seen any for sale. Does such a thing exist? How would you roll your own?

Hitting those dirt wigglers without rat-shot, when they are on the run, is quite the challenge. The 41 grenades the ground and sends them flying in the air.

    I just use "41 special" rounds .... a 210 lead bullet at about 500 fps works great on snakes and rats.

    Take a empty 41 case remove primer and drill out the primer hole a little larger, next grind a little cutting edge on the case neck. This will be your wad cutter. Use styrofoam and tap the wad cutter to cut wads and push them out from the primer hole with stick. I used 7 1/2 shot and some pretty stiff loads of 2400. First powder, next 2 wads, next shot and topped off with overshot wad. Press it tight. Sometimes would seal the end with fletch tight glue for water tight rounds. Kill a rabbit at 25ft, completely kill snake and blow it away. darn near 410 load. Nice home defense for first load to get their attention, followed up with hollow points.

    While no where near as sophisticated as jaegermister's, I have made my own .45 LC shot shells. I use a light load of shotgun powder like Red Dot, tamp in a tissue paper wad, then seal over the shot in with wax. You're not going to kill a rabbit at 25 ft with this load, but for shooting barn rodents at less than 10 ft they work pretty good.

    BTW, the styrofoam wad is a good idea, I might try that my next loads.

    If you can find some gas checks you can use them .... one over the powder and one over the shot..... they take up less room so a lot more shot fits in the brass.... I uses 5.5gr of bullseye....I have loaded a bunch like that for 357's. the soft shot on the bbl will lead up but a good cleaning will fix it no problem.


    P.S. if you find a place to get .41 gas checks let me know I would love to make somemore of these myself. I have not had any gas checks for several years now.

    I started ttrying this a while back and putnit on the backburner. Took some 30-30 cases and trimmed to length. Haven't tried it yet. Need to get back on it.

    My experience with Shot shells in handguns (.44 mag. and .45 ACP) has given result more in the "barn rodents at 10 feet" than a full grown rabbit at any distance. Whatever you end up with, be sure to test it on paper before you set a Max. range limit. Most barrels will spread that small shot out real fast. The only shot shell I'd trust on something like rabbits would be out of a Contender with the screw in (or on) choke that halts the spin imparted by the rifling while cracking open the shot capsule.

    Midway USA has some Hornady .416 gas checks. Some of the reviews say that they will work with .41, some say they won't. Here's a link.

    I use Kleenex for over powder wads & gas checks over the shot for 45/70 shot shells.
