Stevens 311
I recently aquired an old Stevens 311 h series sxs 20ga 3" chamber with a 26" barrel. My question is what chokes are they? I can not find any markings that would indicate. I'm guessing it would be improved/modified with the 26. Any ideas?

How can you tell the age of a Stevens 311 0 -
Do you have a serial number?? 0 -
There is a code on the bottom of the receiver to date the ones with no serial number. I'll try to find a link to it.
Double barrel shotguns were date coded between 1949 & 1970. This code can usually be found behind the hinge pin or ahead of the trigger guard on the bottom of the frame and is a small circle with a letter and a number in it.
The letters indicate the year of manufacture starting with "A" in 1949 and ending with "X" in 1970. The letters "O" & "Q" were not used.
Some say this code worked on their single shot shotguns as well, but this is not verified. It appears to have not been used on any other models.

If the wood is walnut then it is earlier then 1967 . Serial numbers started in 1968 and started with an a and are usually 6 digits . The 1968 and later ones had pressed checkering on nice hARDWOOD ( but not walnut} there are lots of different patterns but by about 1989 the 311 was too expensive to sell anymore. The last few years the metAL WAS STILL WELL FINISHED BUT the wood was very open grain with a very heavy dark stain and so so pressed checkering.
I think the final price of 311's in 1989 was $360 which was pretty high except for the 410 which was a good buy at that price.0 -
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and don't really know a lot about shotguns. My father just gave me a Stevens 311 double-barrel 12 GA shotgun, and I was hoping to find out more information about it. I've looked for the date codes mentioned in this thread, but can't find anything. There is no serial number. On the left side there is the standard Stevens 311 markings. The right side has the number 5100, and the bottom has a symbol that looks like an arrow.
Here are some pictures. Does anyone have anymore information about this gun?
Thanks,
Steve
