C&R to C&R- shipping advice

Can one C&R holder ship to another C&R holder? If so, which shipping agent is best to use? Can the handgun be sent through USPS or it it best (easier) to use UPS or FedEX? I'm ready to ship and I would like some hints/guidelines.

    A C&R license only gives you privileges when you acquire a firearm, not when you dispose of one. So, you ship the same way any nonlicensee ships: long arms by USPS, UPS, or Fedex, handguns by UPS or Fedex only. (USPS can only be used for handguns dealer to dealer, & you are not a dealer.)

    UPS & Fedex both require handguns to be shipped from a company counter, not Kinkos or a UPS Store. You must declare the contents (in writing to protect yourself). You must ship Next Day Air. Nothing on the package may indicate that it contains a firearm. Bring a lot of cash.

    EDIT: Well, actually, the common carriers have tariffs, which can be found on their websites. And, these tariffs are considered a contract between the carrier & the shipper. If a Kinkos employee mistakenly accepts a firearm, or a carrier employee mistakenly permits you to ship 2nd day, the contract has been violated & you will not be reimbursed if the gun is lost or damaged.

    As Neal already hinted; be prepared for quite a shock when you see how much it will cost to ship the pistol via UPS/FedEx; generally $50 minimum.

    Common carriers have POLICIES not law that say handguns go overnight. My local hub will usually do 2nd day air which is about 1/2 the cost of overnight.

    I am not sure what you are talking about on contracts since I am talking about the shipping company. The man at the UPS hub that works for UPS is the one that is shipping my guns that way.

    Maybe I used the wrong term when I said common carrier as UPS and Fedex are not the only 2 but they are the largest and most common.

    Be careful where you ship it. Some states, like New York, do not recognize C&R licenses for handguns and they must be shipped from an FFL dealer to an FFL dealer in NY. I'm sure there are others, such as New Jersey.
