There is a Saiga website that gives all the mods you could want.
    It's a Russian made gun.
Some AK parts will interchange but others wont.
I have the 223 and like it.
Interestingly, 223 AK mags wont fit. The 7.62x39 will but of course wont work. You need to buy Saiga mags unless you do some modification.
I suspect 7.62x39 AK mags wont fit the 7.62 Saiga either but the website
shows how to modify the Saigas and work around these problems but you'll have to exchange some Russian parts with US made to comply with the law.
If you can live with the Saiga as it is, you've saved some money.

The standard Saiga's with the sporting style stocks (no pistol grip) take a special magazine and do not interchange with standard comunist magazines (millions to billions in circulation) with out modification to the rifle. The standard saiga is missing the bullet guide ramp to the chamber that allows them to function w/ std magazines.

There are some companies out there making high capacity magazines for the unmodified saiga rifles. I don't know how good, reliable, or sturdy those magazines are. Unless it's a 308 saiga, I wouldn't mess with them.

The best deal out there in converted saigas which take full capacity magazines and have std ak stocks and pistol grips is the Arsenal Saiga's being sold by www.k-var.com

You can buy a std saiga and convert it yourself and kill most inherit value in the gun or buy one from K-Var.

If I were you I'd buy a K-var rifle. Probably the best deal out there on a top quality AK47.

If you do buy a std saiga and want to convert it, here's a website that will take you through the step by step conversion process:

    www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion

There are some other converted saigas on the markey. I believe Atlantic Firearms and & Centerfire Systems sell them. I've heard varying reports on them. Some work fine some don't at all.

And if money is no option and you the top of the line AK...
    Buy one from www.krebscustom.com
