wasr-10 stock removal
Anyways I wanted to take the wooden fixed stock off of my WASR-10 but unfortunately I've run into a slight problem with it.
It seems that even after removing the two vertical screws that hold it in still won't solve the problem, and yes I'm well aware that those two screws are the ones that are holding it in.
I'm no stranger to the AK but this one has got me stumped.
I even had a buddy hold onto the rifle for dear life while I tried with all my might to literally rip the darn thing off (the stock part) but either it's pretty well entrenched in there or I'm gonna need someone with bigger muscles to pull it out for me.
For kicks I unscrewed the metal butt plate on the end of the stock to see if there were any "long screws" that secure it onto the rifle. No luck, the only thing I found in there was a couple holes with some rust in there.
I also consulted my owners manual to it but all it said in there was how to field strip it, which ironically is necessary to remove the other screw anchoring the stock in.
Also consulted my rifle-dissassembly-book but all it said was the same thing, just remove those two Phillips-heads screws holding it in.
Finally I also noticed what appears to be 4 separate entrenched nails in the stock. Is this normal on WASR-10's? Does it have anything to do with holding the stock in? Is the stock gonna be stuck to my rifle for life, short of sawing it off at least? Will I need to rent Chuck Norris to pry it outta there for me?

I had to tap/hammer a pry bar in the hole on the mount block and pry the stock out. Take it easy and slow. Check out you tube they have a video that shows you how. 0 -
Field strip the action and remove the 2 screws (base of receiver).
Fill up a laundry bag with dirty laundry.
Grasp AK by barrel and using an over the head chopping motion beat all 4 sides of the stock against the laundry bag.
Stock will wobble off.
You could also use your bed or or couch just don't let the wife catch you.
You can also mount your receiver in a padded vice and use the base of your hand or a mallet to tap on all 4 sides of the stock but the dirty laundry bag technique is so much easier.
Whatcha gonna put on in its place? Might I recommend either poly K-var stocks or a Romanian wire folder?
If it's not too late...
Stay away from Tapco stocks on your ak.0 -

When you go to put the stock back on I recommend you get yourself a plastic mallet to tap it back on.
Put the muzzle of the rifle on something padded and tap the stock on. Or put the receiver in a padded vice.
Check out www.K-var.com for poly stocks or www.copesdistributing.net usually carries wire romanian folding stocks. You can club baby seals with the wire folder.
Here's 3 romy's I built at home. Also have another std stock G build and a SAR1. Think I've changed stocks on the SAR 1 4 times.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only person having a problem getting mine off. I was starting to think it was pinned, too. So, what's wrong with Tapco stocks? that is what I was planning on putting on.

Kinda cheap &... AR15 stocks don't belong on AK47's.[}:)][:o)][}:)]
Otherwise Tapco is alright.
If you want to shorten the length, get a Romanian wire folder. Much more sturdy.0 -

Thanks, Man. I agree, but mine is just a side folder, nothing like the collapsible(I think that is what you are mentioning). I mean, if it ain't worth doodley, then I don't want it on there. of course, I still have to try and get the stock off first. [:D]
