S&W 686 Adjustable Front Sight
I know this is intended for silhoutte shooting, but how does it work? Worth extra $$ or is it just a gimmick? Never saw one close up.

I wouldn't want one on a gun I am trying to conceal, as the material-snagging blade sight is a hassle, nor would I want one on a carry-gunting gun, because it's one more thing that could get knocked askew in a holster. (The ones I have seen have a dial-type elevation adjustment system and a large Patridge blade which makes for a great sight picture on a target gun) Even though they were often seen on 586-686 .357's (A marginal round for metallic silhouette due to the limited energy at 200 meters for the heavy rams) If it was a "target only" gun you're looking for it might be pretty cool. 0 -
They put a few on M29s which would be better for silhouette.
I think the 586 with one would be a good PPC gun, just click, click, click, click the wheel from 7 to 15 to 25 to 50 yards.0 -
A M29 I had, had the four position front sight. You just adj. each number for different ranges, and turn it to the one you want. 0 -

It was brought out for PPC shooting. It gave you an edge with sight adjustment. The 586 and 686 were very popular for PPC competition when it was all revolvers. 0
