2nd Question for Mark Christian

CA has the safe gun list. A Savage Striker 516 is not on the list. There are a few exclusions. Would a bolt action Savage Striker be one of them?

    As far as I know the exclusion to the safe handgun roster only applies to certain SA revolvers which meet specific minimum size restrictions.

    The are two effective methods: Contact the DOJ or simply give a call to Savage, they will know if their firearm was submitted to the DOJ and whether or not it is available for retail sale in CA.

    Is the Savage Striker a single shot? If so and it meets the minimum OAL requirement of 10.5" with a 6" bbl attached it is roster exempt. Note that this exemption was passed in part to allow the T/C Encore and Contender into CA.

    If the Striker is magazine fed it would have to be modified to single shot only before being imported. Once transfered & DROS'd it can be returned to it's regular magazine capacity.

    I don't know much about the conversion process, I do know it's a temporary set up using some kind of "sled" in place of the mag. CA residents regularly do this to get AR & AK handguns into CA under the single shot exemption. Again, I've not done this and I suppose each person has their comfort level on such matters. Some folks view it as courting jail time, others simply as legally working within the system.

    Unfortunately the Striker I was looking at has a magazine, it is not the single shot. Sled, would that be like a single shot follower installed in the magazine?
