scope for my new 22 magnum

hello all, I just traded for an older ruger 77/22 magnum in stainless steel with zytel stock in excellent condition with the factory rings installed, I am having some trouble deciding on a new scope for it. i know i want a 3-9x40mm because of the light gathering ability (this is a coon and coyote rifle). because this rifle has no recoil to speak of i am looking at an inexpensive scope...either a tasco world class or simmons, whats the best of the low end scopes in the sense of holding zero and not fogging up? i know i will hear "get a burris" or "get a leupold" from some folks bt i dont want to invest that much on this rimfire. i own mostly leupolds and old redfields with some steel weavers, going inexpensive on this one...your thoughts?

    Bushnell, far superior to Tasco, and better optics than the price would indicate.

    Well, I'll toss out a few different ones. Mueller, Swift and Pentax. I think the Mueller has excellent glass for the price - lousy eye relief, as in short, which is why I don't use them on anything above 25 caliber. But they are clear.

    I'll second He Dog on Bushnell. I put a recent production 3x9x40 Banner on my Ruger 77/17hmr and it is deadly on small game and broken pieces of skeet. I really like the European style fast focus it has. I think I paid something like $75+sh for it over on that other auction site a couple of years back.

    I have had Nikon Buckmasters on my 22 mags and 17HMR. I put a Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster on my new 983s. It is a little over kill but I got it for $275 and is has SF. Great little scope.

    Both of the two you mentioned are purely JUNK, and not worthy of that rifle. I would go with the Bushnell in a pinch, but my choice would be a Sightron, Burris, or Nikon.

    If you want light gathering, go up to a x50

    I have a Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50 w/ AO on my Savage 22wmr ... very nice scope for the money. If you want to go with the x40 I have a Simmons 8pt 3-9x40 on my Savage 22lr ... also a nice scope, but does not have the adjustable focus. Finally, I read lots of good stuff about the Nikon shotgun scopes - and they come in a silver finish (if that is important to you w/ the stainless gun).

    Sir, you asked for thoughts, here are mine.

    I never understood the willingness to part with hard earned money for junk. If shifting POI, poor construction, cheap lens coatings and who knows how much parallax is acceptable, why not just stick with iron sights?

    Buy a Burris Timberline they can be found for very reasonable prices.
