winchester 1894 whats it worth
I have a winchester 1894 that was passed down from my great grandfather....it has a 26 inch octagon barrell in 30 wcf...its probably in 80 to 85 % category...the serial number is 238,967 and was built in 1904....the stock and arm piece are in really good shape, it truly is a beautiful rifle..

If you didn't get the date of manufacture from Bert H. here in the forum, it's likely to be off by a few years. Bert will give you the correct date when he checks in.
"80 to 85%" condition is very optimistic but not impossible for a gun that old. However, conditions tend to be subjective and may or may not be original condition. Please post pics of your rifle so Bert and the rest of us can get a good look at it. This thread will show you how:

1904 is the correct year of manufacture! I am curious where you determined the date of manufacture.
As for the value, a cell phone camera will not provided the necessary detail. Please buy, or borrow a good quality digital camera.0 -
I did some research for my grandpa a few years ago, as to the year it was built...I have in my posession the receit/ post cared that my great grandfather kept when the rifle was bought new. 0 -

That receipt adds some value to the gun. Please be sure to store it in a safe place.
I highly recommend that you contact the Cody Firearms Musueum (use the web link that follows my signature line) and purchase a factory letter for your old Winchester. It would be very interesting to know what the difference is between the date it was listed as "Sold" in the factory ledger to the date that your great grandfather purchased it.0 -

There are several issues with the condition of the rifle...
The first (and most important) issue is the fact that somebody has taken a hammer or a file to the rear surface edge of the take down extension ring. It appears that somebody peened (or filed) the entire outer edge of the extension ring (putting a beveled edge on it), and it is very noticable damage.
The next issue is the front sight is not original to the rifle. The rear sight may or may not be original.
The condition of the bluing on the receiver frame is <15%, and the condition of the stocks is average.
In this economy, and with the noted problems, you would be doing real well to get more than $800 for it.0
