Smith E, F, G, H Frames? What are these?

This is a bit of trivia, raised by the last question on grip sizes.

We "experts" all know that Smith sizes its frames as follows:

I = short/small (no longer produced).
J = small
K = medium
L = medium/large
N = large
X = extra large/magnum

And that the grips are shared as follows: I/J, K/L/X, and N.

But on the Smith website, I was looking at grips, and Smith lists some frame sizes in their grip web-page that I'm not familiar with, eg:

"J/E"

"K/L/F/H"

"N/G".

Anyone know what E, F, G, and H refer to?

Edit: Thanks, Laredo. Do the Scandium and alumnium frames have their own letters too?

    An "E" frame is the same as a "J" frame but in stainless.

    An "F" frame is the same as a "K" frame but in stainless.

    A "G" frame is the same as an "N" frame but in stainless.

    An "H" frame is the same as an "L" frame but in stainless.

    This lettering system is used by the factory to differentiate between carbon steel and stainless steel frames of the same size.

    K/F/H/L are the same,
    and,
    G/N are the same,
    Yes?
    And the X goes along with the KFHL?
    Somehow I don't think I'll remember all that, but it's nice to know.

    Its a lot easier if you just remember that Smith makes revolvers in three main frame sizes, small, medium, and large, each with its own grips.

    The other thread on this concluded, by the way, that the current large frame guns take medium (K/L) frame grips. Your mileage may vary.
