banned in CT?

I was perusing the "wanted" posts and came upon an add for a pre-ban AR-15 NOT a Colt because this fellow said that Colt ARs are specifically banned in CT...Why would this be? Curious.

    I don't understand your question.

    First, the term "AR-15" is copywrited by Colt. If a rifle was not made by Colt, it cannot be an AR-15. It can be an "AR-15 type", or an "AR-type", or something else, but not an "AR-15".

    Second, all Colt AR-15's were made pre-ban (that is, prior to the federal ban).

    Third, all Colt AR-type rifles are whatever Colt stamped on the lower receiver. If it say "Colt HBAR Match", it's a Colt HBAR Match, not a Colt AR-15.

    Finally, some states still restrict so-called assault rifles, despite expiration of the federal ban. That have the legal right to do what they want.

    If you are shipping any firearm to a dealer in another state, it's his responsibility to know whether or not he can deliver it to the customer.

    Go to the State of Connecticut web page. They list what is banned. The list is quite specific so although two guns may appear to be the same one may be banned and the other not banned. The confusion is that everyone uses the term AR15 for all similar type guns.

    CT has two basic types of ban - by name and by configuration.

    The Colt AR 15 may be banned by name - check the attachment. AR 15 "types" - basically another brand (Stag, S & W, DPMS) using the AR style lower - may not be specifically banned but are limited as to what features or combination of features they may carry - no bayonet lug or threaded barrel, etc. So it is possible that an AR type rifle that could be allowed in CT may not be allowed in CT if it not properly configured.
