Ruger MK III

Can anyone tell me if the top half of the ruger mk III 22 pistol (barrel and reciever) is the same on the standard steel frame guns as on the plastic framed 22/45? My question is, are they interchangeable?

    Is anyone shooting a Ruger Mark 3?

    I bought a new one last fall and have put about 3 to 4 thousand round thru it, so it should be thoroughly broken in. It is a beautiful gun and I am finally able to hit the bulls eye with it. The problem I'm having is that it is jamming all the time. I can't put a 10 round clip thru it without having it jamb. It is not cleanly ejecting the empty and the fresh round is catching the empty one. I'm wondering if this is just the nature of this gun or if there is something going one with mine that needs fixed.[:(!]

    We had that same issue with cheap/old ammo.

    One of the big issues I have had with that gun was not in the breakdown to clean it, but the reassembly.

    He asked why I was breaking it down, and I mentioned the issue with jams and I though maybe if I cleaned and oiled it, it would solve the problem. He recommended that I just run the barrel after I shoot it, send it to Ruger once a year to and have them clean it and buy higher grade ammo.

    Its a fun little gun, and I hope you solve your issue.

    Cabnetman, I shoot one and haven't experienced the problems you are having. Mine seems to prefer Federal ammo. However, even with other brands, while they don't seem to be as accurate in my pistol, I've never had jams or feeding problems. You definitely have something wrong with your firearm. Sounds like you might need to run some hotter ammo through it. I would also try a different mag, even though it sounds like your problem begins with extraction. You never know.

    I normaly shoot the Federal Value Pack and thought the ammo might be the issue so I've tried Winchester super X, CCI and Aguila golden eagle and all seem to have the problem.

    I had my son shoot it with the same results.

    I'm glad to hear that it's not the nature of the gun because it is a fun gun to shoot. I shoot the Federal also but have tried almost all the different brands with the same results. I've tried the 2 mags that came with the gun and don't think that's the problem. It has to have something to do with the ejection mechanism.

    Usually only about one, however, yestarday I was getting a couple with every mag (very frustrating). Seems like it is getting worse. May have to take it to the "gun doctor" if I can't figure it out.

    That is not the easiest gun to take apart and clean. The first time I broke it down, I thought I was going to have to send it back to Ruger to have them put it back together. After taking it apart a half dozen times or so it is becoming much easier to break down and put it back together. I can do it now in about two minutes. Yes, I thought that the problem I was having was due to it being dirty and consequently now keep it very clean. I think there is something going on with the ejector as it is not clearing the spent round cleanly and it is getting tangled up with the new round going into the chamber. I'm glad to hear the it is not indicative of the gun as I really like the gun.

    cabnetman...try sending it back to Ruger something isn't working right. I have a Mark II and have put 500 cheap 22LRs through it with three different magazines at a time and it doesn't miss a beat. Love it!
