Romanian TT33

I have a Romania Tokared, when I shoot it the slide release pops up and holds the slide open, you have to hit it with your thumb to make it drop forward to fire another round. This doesn't happen on every shot but happens most of the time. I have tried different ammo and different magazines with no help and the gun has been cleaned well. Would appreciate any helpful suggestions you might have.

    Was there a notch cut in the slide stop when the distributor installed the safety lever?

    Yes there is. looks like they had to do that to make room for the import safety.

    Most likely you will need to send it back to the importer for repair. Should have some sort of warranty.

    Otherwise, I have some poor some might say unsafe advice for you. The Tokarevs were designed without an external safety. I would remove it. In fact my Chinese Tok has it removed.

    With it removed, you just need to make sure the chamber is unloaded if you plan on carrying it. Hell, I wouldn't carry it with a loaded chamber with the safety intact.

    Remove the safety and try it.
    If that doesn't fix the problem then the the slidestop is protruding too far into the magazine well allowing ammunition to push the slidestop into engagement.
    The slidestop has to be ground a smidgeon where it protrudes into the magazine well,
    Do it carefully a little at a time.
    If you determine the safety is pushing the slidestop up and you want to keep the safety then you have to grind or file the safety where it lifts the slidestop.
