Winchester Breech Assembly

Hi Guy's thanks for all the help with breaking down my gun as it was in desperate need of cleaning. I have a Winchester 1892 32-20 sporting rifle. When I put the gun back together the firing pin seems to have no tension on it. When I pull the lever down it pulls the pin back but when I close the lever the firing pin seems to just fall forward. Is this normal? I took everything apart again and everything seems to be working fine other then the firing pin.

    That sounds normal.

    I believe that you are concerned about having an accidental disharge, no? Well, you should keep the chamber EMPTY, until you are ready to shoot. However, if'n you chamber a round, and then need to go to a "safe" contidition, then you can put the hammer back down (carefully) to the "half-cock" notch. In either of these two states (no chambered round; half-cock position), the firing pin DOES NOT contact a live round. ...but, you can still cause a discharge of a chambered round, from the half-cock position, if you give the hammer a hard enough blow.
