What is this trigger guard????

Finger grooves put me in mind of a French musket or rifle musket.

Could be French, certainly of Napoleonic period early 1800s. Should have a slot ahead of the TG for the sling swivel. French influence might have it made variously in Europe. Many converted to percussion came here to Confederacy during the Civil war.
