Browning A Bolt

I have a A bolt in 6.5, the newer comp stock. problem is, the bolt will not close in the chamber, unless i press the back of the bolt bolt forward with my thumb , whilst cocking it.

NOT SAFE, as i have to use my left hand thumb to press forward whilt ,cocking the bolt with my right !! Its a new gun, what is the problem here. It seems there is too much float in the bolt.
Can i strip the bolt & tighten up, the float?

    It sounds as if the locking lugs or the slots that they fit into in the back of the chamber area need a bit of honing.

    Have you examined these areas for machining that was not quite fully finished? Usually the A-bolts that I have had and seen are already quite smoothed up in this regard. And, you might try some graphite or perhaps something with some mild abrasive in it, and work the bolt numerous times to see if it wears in better.

    If that does not do it, either go through Browning customer service, or enlist a good gunsmith.

    Which 6.5 cartridge do you have? I was not immediately aware that it was offered in any of the 6.5s. They are some of my favorites, including 6.5-06, 6.5 Remington Magnum, .260 Remington, and 6.5 Swedish Mauser, as well as .264 Winchester.

    I had an A-bolt Medallion in .223, and it was superb. I liked it so much I shot it out in three years and 6000 rounds! Jacks, rockchucks, squirrels, paper, you name it. A brother has an A-bolt Stainless Stalker in .338 and loves it too. You should be pleased with it if you resolve that little issue.

    Hi Bud,
    I fully examined the area, the amount of metal to remove would be 1/16" ! The action is smooth & faultless, but the bolt only engages ,if i put the pressure on the back of the bolt, before pushing the handle down, to fire.
    If the tension in the bolt was greater ,the float in the bolt would be less, & engage. Thats how it looks.

    London is a fast Scit hole, best for a couple of day, then avoided. IMO, Fast & furious !! I prefer to take it easy, 200 mile north [;)]
