AK Barrell Change

Can Anybody enlighten me on how to change out a bent barrell on a romanian AK 47 (wasr10)

    There are many links and videos online. It is not something that can be told in a paragraph or two.

    This is not a simple swap and will require a few tools and some time. You will have to drill out the rivets that hold the barrel in, fit the new barrel and replace the rivets.

    Is the barrel bent or canted?

    Romanian AK's have a pinned in barrel. You'll need a hydraulic press to punch the barrel pin out. Then you can use the same press the press the barrel out of the trunion.

    Same steps for a canted barrel but it's hard to control how a barrel is pulled into a receiver. Even the high dollar ak's can have canted barrels.

    Easiest fix would be to find a manufacturer - builder that specailizes in AK's. They would have all the tooling.


    I've had Marc Krebs of Krebs custom use his hydraulic press to press out some barrels on my ak's for me. He has an auto setup and pops them out in seconds.

    I don't know if he is taking repair - custom work anymore but you might give him a call. Who know's with this economy.

    No rivots need to be removed on a complete gun.

    You could go to CENTER FIRE.COM and order a parts kit where the trunnion is mounted to the barrel and use machine screws to mount to the existing receiver after cutting off the old rivets.

    A large arbor press and a good eye could probably straighten that bent barrel if it isn't too bad.
    511's suggestion sounds easiest for changing out the barrel without dealing with indexing problems.
    All the 223s I've seen have noticeable windage corrections made on the front sights-and they are done at the factories.
