If he has it and you want it then he is calling the shots...And naming the price. If you can't find another one any where in your area then there is not much you can do except bite the bullet and pay his price, or just walk away.

He took this gun in trade for something else and got scared of it after firing it once(strange) but if its rare then maybe $1000 is fair...

I posted a thread a few weeks ago asking about the value of a mini 14. The consensus was the value of a good used rifle was $400-$500 depending on condition and accessories.

    cert:

One of my friends bought one of these new for the going price, and then had it customized with trigger, barrel, etc. He put $1800 into the customization, on top of the original price. Now, it is supposed to actually be accurate, but the jury is still out, as we went shooting and he did not hit much of anything. But, that is a different story.

It sounds like he is about $400 too high unless these additions are pretty special.

The picatinny rail and flash hider are stock or well matched and I thought there might be a version that warranted the extra money...Thanks to all for the input so far ,It seems wise to wait for a better price when he tires of owning it, because its the just the mini I want to own!

gun.nut welcome to the forum. So he is asking $1000? Seems a little high. I think your $400 may be a little low. Check the for sale side of this forum to see what they have sold for especially something like you are looking for and use that as a counter offer. Hard facts help settle options. My guess $600 will be tops.

Given the usual accuracy of mini-14s I think $600 is generous.
