Shipping ammunition USPS

I think I know the answer to this already but I thought I'd ask the experts. Can you ship ammo through the postal service? I think I saw a sign at the post office that shows things you cannot ship and one of the pictures is a bullet.

I have a few different types of factory ammo I have picked up and would like to sell them on GB. I am sure I will have to ship them when they sell and want to do it right.

    NO you can not ship AMMO through the USPS. You Can ship via UPS if it is properly marked.

    You can ship empty brass, bullets or inert/dummy (no powder or primer) rounds through the postal service, BUT NOT live ammo.

    The postal service lists dynamite, hand grenades and ammunition, on the same line/regulation, as things you CAN'T ship.

    No loaded ammo can be mailed. It is a shame because those nifty flat rate boxes form the Post Office, which are good for up to 70 pounds, would make buying/shipping ammunition much more cost effective. If you are shipping bullets or brass then the flat rate boxes are nearly always the best deal.

    Bummer! Ok, I'll just have to try to figure UPS shipping. We have a place that does UPS but the cheapest they charge is something like 14 bucks! I'd hate to list a box of ammo for 9.99 and then have to charge 14 just for the freaking shipping!!

    Shipping ammo is expensive for just a small amount. Maybe if the same person won several different auction you could combine into one shipment.

    If the place you are talking about is a UPS contract station you'd better find out in advance of they will handle ammunition. Most of these little stations won't touch guns or ammo and this means you have to haul it to the actual depot. That is a 50 mile round trip for me which makes selling one box of ammo a losing proposition, unless I am going to the depot any way.

    Yep, same here; 50 miles each way to a UPS hub. I have .45acp, .380acp and .50-70 ammo I would give away but it would cost me too much to ship it.

    You can schedule a UPS pickup but that too is cost prohibitive.

    Only time I do it is if I have 100 rounds plus of something worth some money. Example: I bought 160 rounds of 7.35 Carcano ammo that goes for about $20-25 a box with clips. I shot 1 box, decided my handloads did better, and resold it. I got $120 for 122 rounds on clips, it cost me $18 some plus their pickup fee. But as I got it for $100 I basically got to try out 1 box and keep the 3 clips for free.

    If a UPS depot is close by, might be worth it for 2-3 boxes or more, but even then, not for any less.

    We went to a an antique/flea market yesterday and I found a box of .17 rem so I got them. I find lots of ammo like this and would like to resell it but if the shipping is too high then it won't be worth it to me. I wouldn't want to bid on a great bargain on a box of ammo just find out it's going to cost twice as much just because of the shipping!

    Fedex will also ship ammo at much cheaper rates than UPS, and they will pick it up. You can also pre-arrainge to meet a driver at one of their drop off boxes
