HK P7 question
A question about the HK P7 autoloader.
These German 9mm pistols have begun showing up in used gun cases around here. I think they are German police trade-ins.
Does anyone own one of these odd squeeze-cock pistols? How does it rate compared to other 9mm pistols on the market?

I had one for many years back when I was an authorized HK law enforcement dealer. It is an extremely well made pistols. The action, which is a strange type of delayed blow back where a small amount of gas is vented into a chamber under the barrel and presses against a small piston to keep the breech locked, sounds complicated but is actually rather trouble free. The heel release magazine is not favored in this country and it seemed to me that it took far more effort to cock the P7 than nearly any other 9mm pistol I ever used. The other thing I never liked was that to chamber a round after loading a fresh magazine you had to depress the front grip once to close the slide, then release the grip and press it a second time to fire the pistol. I never saw any advantage to doing that over simply hitting a typical slide release button/lever with your thumb. These used to cost a ton of cash from HK (about $1000 20 years ago) but are now pretty cheap and I think they are worth considering at the new lower price. 0 -
I still have my M8 and I dont mind the cocker as much as I mind the weight, its heavy. But just as most anything German, its well engineered. The other thing that I really like about it is that if someone were to disarm you with it, chances are they would never know how to use it against you. 0 -
I love My P7 M8 Had it since they first came out I like the fact that it is very safe to carry and all shots from first to last the trigger pull is the same Single Action weight of pull I don't know any other pistol that you can cock for the first shot with one hand except he Sauer 38H 0 -
In my opinion one of the finest 9mm pistols ever built. Heavy but helps manage recoil. The easiest gun to shoot quickly and accurately that I've personally ever fired. 0 -

I always enjoyed handing it (unloaded) to a friend and saying see if you can dry fire it. Some never did get it.0 -

That's incorrect. Cocking takes a bit of effort to squeeze the lever initially, but not really all that hard to do and is very easy to hold once cocked. To load and cock requires only one squeeze, not two.

These are some of the best 9mm pistols ever made. Very accurate, safe, and easy to shoot well, mine has never jammed. The used ones being sold today in excellent condition for about $600 are real bargains.
