Colt 32 wcf

Friend selling this old Colt revolver. It has "32 WCF" on the barrel. The numbers "3214" are stamped on the cylinder release and inside by the hinge (with the cylinder open) I think its nickel with a 4 inch barrel. Has hard black grips that say Colt, fixed sights.

What does WCF stand for?
Anyone possibly know if the 3214 maybe 32-14? Cal & model # ???

Is is worth buying or not??????
are parts still availiable??
The cylinder has play in it when closed. Possibly?????

    Depends on what he wants for it, it's a Colt so it will always be worth a certain amount.
    What does WCF stand for?
    The .32-20 Winchester, also known as the .32 WCF, was the first small-game lever-action cartridge that Winchester produced. It was initially introduced as a blackpowder cartridge in 1882 for small-game, varmint hunting, and deer.Colt produced a single-action pistol chambered for this cartridge a few years later. Currently, Black Hills Ammunition sells a 115 FPL cartridge of this caliber.

    .32-20 indicating a .32 bullet diameter (hundredths of an inch) and the 20 indicating a standard black powder charge in grains.

    I think the 3214 are just assembly numbers but someone with more Colt knowledge should be along shortly.

    The serial number on the cylinder release suggests it is one of the earlier Colt DA revolvers.Maybe a 1901 or 1903 Army or Navy. The serial number would also be on the frame as mentioned in the original post. Some .32-20 ammo was loaded to higher pressure for use in the rifles. Make sure you don't try this in the pistol. I believe the high pressure loads will have jacketed soft point bullets and the ones suitable for use in the pistol will have lead bullets. I recall old timers say they preferred the .32-20 pistol to the .38 Special as the .32-20 would shoot through both sides of a 55 gal oil drum and the .38 Special would not. I never tried that even though I have a .32-20 Official Police Colt.

    WCF is an acronym for Winchester Center Fire. The bullet diameter is 0.312 and therefore, it is not a true 0.32-inch diameter bullet.

    You should really post a photo because no one will be able assess a value without knowing how the revolver looks.

    If the cylinder has slop, it is probably not shootable because the timing will be incorrect and shave lead from the bullet spitting fragments longitudinally along the axis of the barrel - not a good thing.
