Springfield 22LR

I have a Springfield 22LR that does not have a serial number on it. How can I tell how old it is and how much it may be worth? Thanks!

    Before 1968 most rifles did not need serial numbers. Good clear pictures and the model number are the only way to tell you anything about it.

    Umm. . .first you identify the MODEL. Then you evaluate the CONDITION, etc.

    As mentioned, guns manufactured prior to 1968 were not required to have a serial number on them by law, and many do not.

    Was your gun made before '68? Probably. . .maybe not.
    Is the serial number present, just in a place you haven't identified? Don't know.
    Was it ground off, or covered by a refinish? Don't know.
    What kind of finish does the gun have? Don't know.
    Are there any OTHER markings on your gun? Don't know.
    What type of action does it have? Don't know.
    What kind of condition is it in? Don't know.

    Getting the picture?

    If you want to have ANY chance of anyone identifying this gun, you're going to have to post some good clear pictures. Directions on how to do that can be found in the "Sticky" at the top of the "Ask the Experts" page.

    Springfield was the budget line of guns in the Savage Mfg "family". Which also included Stevens. I think the Springfield line was deleted in the late 1940's.

    springfield was bought out by savage/stevens in about 1948 so it is before 48
