sale of 1911 government property
You can never get clear title to stolen property but there would be a statute of limitations for prosecution.
On my CMP reciept for my 1911 it reads as follows:
"This document constitutes a bill of sale and is evidence of transfer of title from US Govt. Lack of sufficient evidence of transfer of title could result in confiscation of firearm under prov of RS USC 10-1317. Sale is recorded at US army weapons command, Rock Island, Illindis."
Should be DCM not CMP

Very Interesting I am going to have to get out my paperwork & see if the same statement is on M1 paperwork. I never bought any thing from DCM until early 1970's after the 1968 gun control act. 0 -

This could be very helpful - THANK YOU! It looks like it might provide something concrete rather than just "feels ok after all these years." However, I just spent the last hour searching for RS USC 10-1317 on the internet and could not find it. Seems like I found everything BUT this particular US Code provision. I will keep trying.

Search for 10 USC 1317. That was the old Federal code that governed the US military (changed in 94) Covered accoutability for things like firearms. 0 -
