H & R model 732 revolver

was recently given one of these...caliber stamped on barrel:32 S & W.
appears to be in fair/good condition:

1. is this safe to fire with modern ammo?

2. if so, is there a good self-defense round that's safe to use in it?

3. approx. value?

4. had been thinking about purchasing a compact self-defense arm such as kel-tec .32acp before this was given to me...
are the ballastics of these two rounds (32acp vs. 32 S & W) comparable?

  it should be safe to shoot but if in doubt have it checked by a gunsmith, ammo is limited unless you reload, I think the ones I shoot are 90 grain bullets, some old ammo is still available but winchester did a run of ammo awhile back and you might be able to find some of it. vale on any item in my opinion is what you can sell it for at any time and I check auctions to see what stuff sells for not listed prices for items I'm selling. the 2 cartridges are about the same for power but don't interchange.

  MagTech (Brazil) produces a S&W .32 LONG 95 gr. semi-jacketed hollow point. Box of 50 sells in the mid 20's. I've bought several boxes from Sportsmansguide.com. This ammo will work in all the 732s and 733s (nickel plated). The .32 S&W Long fires a heavier projectile than the .32 ACP (usually 70 gr. for hollow point) at a slower velocity (around 675 - 700 fps in the short barrel vs. 850 to 900 for the ACP round).
  Currently, Model 732s are selling just shy of 200 bucks if in excellent condition, down to just under $100 for fair.
