Has anybody seen????
I have a Victory model revolver from WWII and does not have "US Property" stamped on the upper part of the reciver. All of the ones that I have seen do have that marking. are there some that do not have this marking? any information would be great. Thanks guys.

Without any markings, how do you know it was US Property and used in WW II???

Your gun is probably a "postwar commercial Victory"
After the war ended, S&W had a left-over inventory of parts that the Gov. did not buy. The avalible frames were made up & sold commercially. Your gun should be a "sv" previx & have a ser# in the 800,000 range. It should also be brushed blue finish & have a plug installed in the lanyard ring hole. Checkered magna diamond grips would also be correct.

To answer the question, not all the Victory model guns are marked US property. First question would be, what's the FINISH on yours? Is it parkerized or something else?
Serial number might be helpful in nailing down the date of manufacture further.0 -
Sorry for not getting back with everybody. The serial number for my revolver is V168xxx and it has a parkerized finish on it. It is chambered in 38Special. I asked a local gunsmith what he thought about it and he stated that it has the orgional finish on the rev. He even stated that the finsih was very typical of a war time production. I am just boggeled by the Non "us proerty". All opinions and informatiion is welcome. Thanks 0 -

Per 'Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd ed,' I quote;
"Unmarked, many were sold to civilian users (Defense plants, Post Office, etc.) and do not have U.S. or inspector markings."
I believe Smith & Wesson charges $50 for a history letter on your gun's serial number. A letter will tell you where & when the gun was shipped from the factory.

Here's a picture of one I owned a while ago.Serial #V151387 no U.S.Property markings,parkerized Finish,Hole for lanyard ring with no plug,.38 Spl. Grips of course are not original.

Mine does have the flaming bomb stamped on the hilt of the revolver, but no us prosperty. 0
