Passive safety - Kahr CW9

I carry a the CW9 because the size is perfect. I do not, however, like the fact there is no manual safety. It has a "passive striker block" or whatever that means. Can someone explain?

    I believe its similar to the Glock and XD's..the firing pin can not move unless the trigger is pulled completely to the rear. Pulling the trigger cams a firing pin block out of the way allowing the firing pin to move forward under spring tension and strike the primer of the cartridge.

    Must be why there is quite a bit of travel with the trigger.

    And I believe the other "safety" aspect is that if the firing pin were to somehow move forward under its resting position spring pressure it would not have enough power to ignite the primer. I have the Mk9 and have taken a pretty close look at it. I think it is pretty much impossible for the firing pin to go forward without a full "DA" type pull.

    I carry a Kahr P-9 and it's safeties are just as good as any other DA pistol. Kahr has a model out now with a manual safety, if that is what you want.

    So does this setup on the CW9 allow you to carry (with relative safety) a "cocked and locked" status?

    If the question is, "is the gun safe?", then yes, by today's standards for semi-automatic pistols, its considered safe.
    It can only go off if you pull the trigger all the way back.
    Dropping it can't make it go off.

    No external safety means you can't carry "locked".

    I also think the design is such that there is no "cocked" either. The only way the gun can be fully cocked is if you pull the trigger all the way back.
