Hi,

I need help getting started to identify and assesss the value of the 1911 and holster shown in the pictures. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Just recieved my first pistol permit. I'm thinking about a Kimber or Springfield 1911 in .45. Any recomendations?

    That depends on your budget and what you are going to use it for. A less expencive will do for a plinking 1911, a more expencive one from a name maker will do for compitition. Most 1911's are all metal, some with aluminum frames.In my opinion you gets what you pays for.

    Go with the Springfield, only the frame is forged in Brazil, the rest of the gun is made here in the USA...and the Brazilian company that forges the frames does excellent work by the way.

    I have found surprisingly good results with the Taurus 1911 which did surprise me. For a bargain price 1911, $ 500 +/-, the specs and workmanship came real damn close to my Kimber and Colts.
    So far ..so good but both are under 2 yrs and 1K rounds.
    Just sayin.

    Kimber, S&W, Colt for good, solid value priced U.S. made pistols.

    High dollar pistols from Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Les Baer etc.

    stick with a colt, try to find yourself a used series 70, you will love it, it may cost you a little bit more but you will never lose out, it will only go up in value as time moves on

    Agree 100% here, and that's exactly what I did when faced with this issue.

    The question, really, is what do you want to do with the gun, and how much do you want to spend?

    I like shooting a 1911, but I can't for the life of me imagine actually carrying that brick around with me hidden on my person all day!

    Series 70 Colt or if you can find one for a reasonable price one of the 1927 made on colt equipment in South America. They used to be Cheap but have gone up in price after everyone fould out how good they were.

    I cannot argue the used Colt suggestion...but if you want NEW you can purchase a Thompson Auto Ordnance Stainless 45 for about $700. They are made in the USA. They are now owned by Kahr Arms...they seem pretty good.

    well, you know i'm a colt guy, but the best value out there is the Para GI Expert. it lists for around $550, last i checked, and i was really impressed with the fit and finish, as well as the performance. it's a great gun from the factory and would be a great start for customizing.
    otherwise, there's still some $800 colt 1911's out there but not alot.
