Unknown antique cap and ball gun barrel
I dont know a lot about guns so I'm going to try and do my best to describe this. I came across what I believe is an old cap and ball gun barrel. It weighs approx. 10 pounds and is around 40 inches long. It has the letters WIN 1 70 on it, or at least that what they appear to be. It is not a round barrel is like a shaped liked a stop sign on the inside and outside of the barrel. It looks very very old. Can anyone maybe lead me in the right direction to figure out what kind of barrel this is, who it was made by. Any information would really be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forums. It is highly unlikely that we will be able to help from your description. It's like asking us to tell you about a car from a description of steering wheel with "sedan" written on it.

Are there sights on it, or dovetail slots for same? Is there a breechplug and drum with a percussion cap nipple?
If it's a muzzle loading rifle barrel, the maker's name when marked was usually on the top barrel flat, but there would not likely be numbers. If faint, maybe the marking ends in NIM instead of starting with WIN?0
