I am trying to figure the difference in the older contenders. I have one that has the hinge pin for the break down toward the front of the frame and one frame that is more near the center. I bought a barrel and it will fit on the frame with the pin near the front, but after you put the barrel on it will not break down. You have to take the pin out, and it is still difficult to get the gun to break down. Is this barrel not compatible with this frame?

    The locking lugs are different. The newer style are 2 peice and will work in both frames. You can get them from Thompson center.

    Was there two different older models made?
    Are these locking lugs on the frame?

    The locking lugs are on the barrel, they should be 2 piece for the newer models.. the old ones were 1 piece and were hard to open....
    They changed a few things over the years on the old Contenders but never a problem with barrels going on any of them because of that...
