338 Lapua

Looking at buying one not sure what brand yet. Im not going to rush into anything yet since looking at what they cost and cost to shoot. So this is going to have to be a well thought out thing. Im just wondering if any one has any experience with the savage 110 ba that was on the cover of american rifleman. Ive had alot of people talk bad about savage. Never owned anything made by them so im not sure is to belive theyre not worth a poop. They are going for a quite abit cheaper than lets say a barret. So is this one of things where "you get what you pay for" or are they like the magaize says a good bargin.

    The Savage rifles are great rifles at a decent price. Not to say though there are not more favorable rifles out there.

    As an aside, if you are looking for a 338 Lapua on a budget, and don't wish to pay the high prices for ammo and brass for loading, then look at the 338 RUM. They are performance wise neck and neck, with the RUM brass and ammo being way more available at reasonable prices...or I should say, more reasonable than the 338 Lapua. It opens up the fold for more rifles too.

    the 416 Barret is one answer,if price is not an object,the savage 338 LAPUA is awesome,accurate beyond any price and power beyond any need

    Barrett also makes a rifle for the 338 Lapua...model number is 98B.

    I own a Remington MLR in 338 LM, haven't shot it yet but I'd expect it's the typical reliable and accurate Remington 700. I'd like it a bit heavier, minor point.

    I used to own an AR 30, it's an OK rifle but lousy ergonomics and a very slow lock time. Trigger is OK. I also quite often use an FN Mini Hecate and an HS Takedown. The FN is a folding stock "system" type set up, expensive and very difficult to find. The HS is heavier than the Remington MLR and I like it best. It's solid and well made, great break and trigger.

    I own a few Savage rifles and although the Accutrigger is over rated they have a very good reputation for accuracy. I see that in the Sierra reloading manual they used a Savage 116 action and a 26" bbl for testing, so evidently an accurate 338 LM can be made from the action.

    There's a fellow (Bijou Creek Gunsmithing) that makes 338 LM rifles and you may want to contact him - I think he's on the auction side.
