Mixing shooter's Choice and Kroil Oil?

Guy at the range said he has been using a homemade rifle cleaner made by mixing shooter's choice and kroil oil...ever heard of it? Does it work?

    I use a 2 to 1 mixture of Hoppe's and Kroil and it works very well for cleaning. I assume that it leaves a film of Kroil after you wipe it down.

    I've used the mix for several years,works great. Added, Kroil oil is superior at freeing up stuck choke tubes in a shotgun.

    with wipe-out bore foam, there is no need for anything else.

    Kroil I use for removing any traces of copper solvent.

    JustC so Kroil removes traces of cooper solvents like CR10 etc?

    I don't see that it would do any better than using them seperately but if you would like to mix it can't hurt.

    I use Ed's Red personally. Cheaper and does a great job. Also does a fine job as a penetrating oil.

    Kroil is a super penetrating oil. Any Oil will neutralize the copper solvents. Wipe-out is safe to leave in, no ammonia. I leave wipe-out overnight and patch out the next day. works wonders.

    I shoot moly and use kroil and at about 50 rounds run kroil followed by shooter choice on brush 3 to 5 strokes the clean with kroil... never have shots fall off .. usually kroil about 10 to 20 shots.

    I've never heard of anyone else using that exact formula, but sure, that should work fine for cleaning. I don't see why those particular two products (which each work well separately) wouldn't work well mixed together. You can try it yourself and see what you think.

    In general, many individuals have their own "special recipies" for cleaning, break-in, etc, and in some cases they assign these near-religious significance.

    I think this is an area where there are lots of different formulas and products that could do an excellent job.

    Maybe some formulations might work a little better than others for certain applications (eg copper fouling, black powder, etc), but in general I think that within any category you're probably going to find that these cleaners are more similar than different.

    I use Hobbs and Kroil and it works great. I was intorduced to this formula by an old gunsmith in the military and it has worked great for me ever since.
