remington bolt question
My 80's 700 will let me eject the shell while the saftey is on. My older(60's) 700 won't let me raise the bolt to eject the shell if the saftey is on. Does anyone know why?

Except for the end for different calibers is a 40x and 700 bolt the same dimensions in a short action? 0 -
Yes a Remington short action is a Remington short action. 0 -
So other than the 40x being a single shot, and the 700 a repeater the action dimensions are the same? length, outside diameter, etc? 0 -
"and the 700 a repeater the action dimensions are the same? length, outside diameter,etc?"..........correct.........but they did (do?)make 40x repeaters also 0 -
A friend has a 40X single shot in .30/06 and it's a short action. It shocked me at first. It's a little tricky extracting a loaded cartridge but, other than that, everything works fine. Boy, does it shoot! 0 -

I have the same - didn't pay too much attention at first, I have a 7.62X51 repeater and gee, that 30.06 length action looked familiar. Empty 30.06 brass comes out fine, but if you load and don't shoot you have to pull out the bolt with case attached.0
