Sure, the Swedes and other Scandanavians hunt moose with it. It has a great ballistic coeficient and is a little hotter than the .260 Rem. It may well be one of the best deer rounds made.

SNOOO....+1 with He Dog. The round has been around so long and has become so popular over time just for hunting the the size game you mention. Accurate, low recoil, flat shooting, good knock-down power...fits all those bills. Still going strong since 1894! And the rifles it was made for, the Swedish Mausers, are still tackdrivers over a hundred years later! And ammo is readily available today. You can't go wrong.

    SNOOO,

Outside of the .308 Win., the 6.5x55 is one of the most useful and flexible cartridges for both hunting and target shooting.

There is decent ammunition available from the manufacturers but there is a ton of data and information available for the reloader as well. Reloading will really make the cartridge shine.

Bullet design choice will play a major role in selection. Practice makes a good shooter even better. Proper bullets selection and proper placement of that bullet will be the solution to a successful hunt.

If you need more specific information just ask.

    Best.

The Swedes and Norwegians shoot polar bears with this round, believe it or not.

You can get Lapua brass for it, as well as Lapua bullets, Bergers, etc etc etc. Sooooo much potential

It gives even the most modern hi-tech bench rest rounds a run for their money and only loses out in the most long range, demanding conditions.

More than enough for deer, about the only north american game I wouldn't trust it on is grizzlies.
