Well what is best is a matter of opinion. I like the IOR 4-14x50 with MP-8 Dot reticle so that is what I put on mine, http://www.valdada.com/product/f97b1fa1-9514-42fe-905d-9cf48839182c.aspx I also have one of these on my Target AR-15 and plan on getting another for an AR-10 build I am doing. I have a 6-24x50 on a target .243 that I sold to a buddy. I am getting another 6-24x50 for my .300 Win Mag. So as you can tell I like the IOR.

The are many good scopes for these guns though.

The biggest issue with them is the mount and how they mount. A QUALITY mount is a MUST for this gun. Both the Smith and Sadlak are high quality mounts. The ARMS #18 is also a good mount but you wont be able to use your open sights with it. None of these are cheep. I have the Sadlak Airborne on mine.

    Here is my scoped M1A,

I am 100% sold on the AMRS mount, which I think is the best value for the money. I am not counting pennies, but I am not wealthy like Nwcid [;)]. I use one of two scopes with my M1A:
A Leupold 3.5X10, when I think that ranges might be between 200 and 500 meters.

Or a Kahles 10X with MILDOT when I expect to be at 500 meters or above:

With AMRS I can keep two scopes on two separate sets of rings (the rings are not cheap so brace yourself) and mount either one with no loss of zero.

I have a Sheperd scope mounted on mine. It has the one shot zero and built in range finder out to 1000yds. I have had it since 1993 and have had no problems. For the record I have never made a 1000yd shot with it but have out to 500-520 yd range. Works great.
