Ruger 77 front sight

Has anyone ever had the need to remove the front sight band from a Ruger 77 ???? I know about the plunger and the allen head set screw, but... Is it pressed on, or silver soldered, or both???

  I know Mini 14s and Mini 30s are pressed on...would kinda bet the Ruger 77 is the same. But not absolutely sure.

  "or silver soldered, or both???".........both, very difficult to remove, impossible without finish damage.

  I have two M77s that have front sights. One I bought in 1976, and the other in 1984, I have never had the need to remove the front sight from either. If I may ask, why do you desire to remove the sight base?

  My front sight is rusted and pitted...The seller explained up front that this NIB rifle had been in the plastic sleeve since 1980... I'd like to just replace the whole front sight.....
